Side Event on the 20th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family in New York
The second edition of the IFFD Briefing was held at UN Headquarters on February 18, 2014. It is celebrated every year during the Session of the Commission for Social Development, taking advantage of the participation of Delegates and visitors from many governments around the World.

The attendance of the meeting was once more larger than expected and some members of Permanent Missions from different Member States, as well as UN officials and representatives of international organizations and institutions related with family issues, some of them coming from other countries for the occassion.

During the event, there was an official presentation of the Declaration of the Civil Society. Then, the two annual IFFD Awards for this year were granted to the Government of Singapore, for their efforts in implementing family policies and celebrating the 20th Anniversary, and to the Ambassador Permanent Representative of El Salvador to UN and Vice-chair of the Commission for Social Development H. E. Carlos Enrique García González, who received it in company of his family.

The act was chaired by the UN DESA Focal Point of the Family, Renata Kaczmarska, and the World President of the International Federation for Family Development, Marina Robben. Other speakers were Jim Morgan, Chairman of IFFD; Javier Romero, 2014 Project Manager at IFFD; Ignacio Socías, director general of The Family Watch; and Cristina Napolitano, permanent delegate of IFFD at UN, who introduced the Awards and was followed by some words of those who received them.

After the event, there was still time to discuss and share experiences and initiatives among the attendants, while some refreshments were offered to them.

The whole delegation of IFFD and TFW for this Commission can be seen in the above picture. They have also participated in other activities during those days: Ignacio Socías was one of the speakers at the Doha Briefing, organized by the Doha International Family Institute on February, 13, as well as in the special event on The Family as a Social Driver of Development held on February, 20, in the Ecosoc Chamber, together with Cristina Napolitano.

He was also the speaker on behalf of IFFD for the Family Panel celebrated as part of the Plenary Sessions of February, 18, on the occassion of the 20th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family.
