UN75 announcement: shaping the future
To mark United Nations Day on 24 October, the United Nations Secretary-General has announced that next year’s commemoration of the 75th anniversary of will feature a global discussion project on the role of global cooperation in building the future.
World Cities Day 2019
Together with other events, a Panel Discussion in Observance of the World Cities Day 2019 on ‘Inclusive Cities for All: Intergenerational Urban Arrangements’ was organized at the UN Headquarters in New York by IFFD with the UN DESA Division for Inclusive Social Development and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat).
Meeting of International Organizations
A meeting of seven international organizations with the UN Focal Point on the Family has been held during the IFFD Family Enrichment Congress in London, to coordinate the preparations of the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family.
Family Enrichment Congress in London
A final Declaration of the 20th Family Enrichment, held in London (18-20 November), is now public. More than 1,000 delegates participated in the main Congress, 250 other young participants in the Personal Project Congress and around 300 in the previous World Meeting of Leaders.
European Regions and Inclusive Cities
A workshop on ‘Cohesion policy for a more social Europe: Regions and Cities inclusive for all’ has been co-organized by 16 Regions with the participation of IFFD in the EU Committe of the Regions (Brussels).
Letter to the new European Union Commissioner
IFFD has promoted a letter addressed to the Vice-President-designate for Democracy and Demography of the European Commission. It has been initially co-signed by 59 civil society organizations from 24 Member States, representing around one million families.
Family Policies and Sustainable Development
The Doha International Family Institute in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar have organized a seminar on Family Policies and Sustainable Development in UNESCO on 27th September.
United Nations Summits Week
Alongside the customary speeches from heads of state, five important high-level summits and meetings are taking place this way in the United Nations Headquarters, covering many of the key issues facing today’s world.
European vice-president for Demography
The European Commission president-elect Ursula von der Leyen has nominated the Croatian candidate Dubravka Suica as vice-president for Democracy and Demography. Her mandate will include dealing with ageing, reconciling work and family and children’s rights.
International Family Congress
IFFD has participated in the closing panel of the 9th International Family Congress organized by the Universidad de La Sabana (Bogotá), and has also been awarded by the organizers.
