The International Federation for Family Development has produced a background document as a contribution to the opinion entitled ‘Demographic challenges in the EU in light of economic and development inequalities’, requested by the Croatian Presidency to the European Economic and Social Committee.
European Meeting on Demographic Challenges
The European Economic and Social Committee has held an input session for the drafting of an opinion entitled ‘Demographic challenges in the EU in light of economic and development inequalities’, to look into mitigating the negative demographic trends in EU Member States, at the request of the Croatian Presidency and with the participation of experts including Ignacio Socias as representative of IFFD.
Health and nutrition
The written statement of IFFD for the 53rd session of the Commission on Population and Development, deals with ’The importance of the role of good health and nutrition in day-to-day life in achieving personal and social progress goals across a range of domains.’
Global conversation on cooperation
The United Nations announced at the beginning of the year that, to mark its 75th anniversary in 2020, they will launch the biggest-ever global conversation on the role of global cooperation in building the future we want.
New report of the UN Secretary General
The new report of the UN Secretary General on family issues is focused on recent family policy trends, mainly in the areas of gender-sensitive social protection, work-family balance, gender equality and family homelessness. Good practices in family policymaking by Governments, United Nations entities and civil society are also highlighted.
Conference on Family Policy at the US Senate
The Second International Conference on Family Policy was held at the US Senate on 4th December, organized by the Embassy of Hungary, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and the Embassy of Brazil, with the participation of IFFD.
Sao Paulo joins the Venice Declaration
Luiz Alvaro, Secretary of International Relations, presented the Declaration signed by major Bruno Covas on behalf of the Municipality, together with Marina Morais and Bruna Starling. IFFD was represented by Roberto Canonico and Ignacio Socias.
Conference on Family and Social Innovation
A conference on ‘Family and Social Innovation’ has been held in Curitiba (Brasil), as the conclusion of the annual meeting for the ‘Inclusive Cities for Sustainable Families’ project members, with more than 400 participants.
The celebrations of the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights in UNICEF New York started with an event on the civil society perspective, organized by the NGO Committee on UNICEF.
New OECD report on children
On World Children’s Day, the OECD hosted a conference to explore the issues around vulnerable children and to present the new report ‘Changing the Odds for Vulnerable Children: Building Opportunities and Resilience’.
